Friends of the Rose Garden

Screen Shot 2013-03-20 at 1.38.33 PMYears ago, a special group of Temelec residents came together to care for the Hall’s extensive rose gardens. Recently, care for the roses has fallen to the landscaper gardeners, with the result that they are in need of some extra TLC (the roses, not the gardeners!).

Is anyone interested in getting together to meet throughout the summer to share in caring for the roses, talk about rose care and enjoy the company of fellow rose lovers? We will get involved in pruning, dead-heading and feeding, among other things. No heavy work. Anyone who is knowledgeable about rose care is particularly welcome.

To respond, please call Gayle Crawford at 935-1182 or email her at terraturt@yahoo.com. Also, please pass along this request to any neighbor who may be interested, but who does not have access to the website.

Temelec Crafts: Doll Clothes

We continue to highlight the residents of Temelec who use their talents to create handmade items to sell at craft shows, flea markets and garage sales.

Do you know Dorothy Vanderpool? She and her husband built their home here in 1974 and she is one of the few original owners in the community. Dorothy shares her home with her daughter, Gayle Crawford, and a sorority of Barbies and American Girls.

Barbie, born in 1959, is almost old enough to qualify to live in Temelec. Dorothy welcomes the buxom lady into her dress designing studio on Temelec Drive, making sparkling gowns, smart pant suits and soft flannel nighties in all the colors of the rainbow.

American Girl may be too young for our neighborhood but she is very quiet. Her wardrobe spans many historical periods as well as modern clothing. Daughter, Gayle, sews beside Dorothy for these 18″ dolls.

Gayle tells us: “These hand crafted items reside in our garage between craft faires. We get to play with dolls and no one questions our mental state!”

To find out more, call Gayle at 935-1182

Memorial Neighborhood Bench Refinishing

Temelec has a number of benches along Temelec Circle, and around the Duck Pond that have “memorial” plaques in rememberance of residents who have passed away.    These benches need some refinishing to make to spruce them up and make them more attractive to sit on and highlight the placques.

We are looking for volunteers to help refinish these neighborhood “Memorial” benches  Don Younghusband, one of our residents, has volunteered to lead the work, and is looking for a few “good” volunteers to assist.  The HOA will supply the refinishing materials.  A work schedule will be held soon to set convenient times for everyone involved.

Please call Julie at 996-1076 to sign up.  We are looking forward to seeing refurbished benches.

Change to Vintage House Focus Groups

This is an update to an earlier post about focus groups being held by Vintage House. The senior center is looking for input from the community to better align its programs with the needs and wants of residents. To this end, there will be a series of focus groups with Valley seniors to explore ideas and opinions.

The revised location for Temelec residents will be a private residence in Creekside Village, 156 Ave Barbera.

The group will be held on Wednesday. March 20th as follows: 5.00 – 6.00 pm for residents 55-70 years old.

For more information on the location of groups for older residents or to make a reservation to attend this group, please contact Jone Gamble at 338-2661.

This is YOUR Website!

Screen Shot 2013-02-14 at 7.52.25 AMThe Temelec website is up and running. I am working on adding the directory to the site and setting up a password-protected residents’ section.

This is a site for the community, and everyone who lives in Temelec is encouraged to contribute to its content. Some possible ways you might want to add to the website include:

  • Photos, current and historic.
  • Short articles sharing your memories and experiences of life in Temelec.
  • Announcements of upcoming events and activities.
  • Stories and photos of recent community events.
  • Outreach to other residents if you are looking to form a group.
  • Memorials and obituaries of residents who have left us.
  • Other content you would like to suggest.

If you have ideas for new content you want to include on the website, please contact Francesca Johnson. You don’t need to be a computer whiz and I will add the content to the site for you.
